The world looks like a scary place, it seems as if it is going backwards. This is a factually incorrect belief. By almost every metric, there has never been a better time to be alive on this planet. Don’t believe me? Check out these facts below;

1. There has never been a better time to be born; the infant mortality has never been lower.
2. There has never been a better time to be a woman; across the board, from the number of woman graduating elementary school, middle school, high school, university, and attaining PHDs has never been higher and continues to grow, along with statistics related to women’s equality, health and economic mobility have never been higher.
3. The literacy rate has never been higher.
4. Those living in abject poverty have never been lower.
5. Those without food on the dinner table at the end of the day has never been rarer.
6. There have never been fewer wars.
7. There have never been more Democracies, or democratically elected female Heads of State.

These achievements have come at a cost, and that cost is sustained hard work. We could have been complacent, but instead we chose not to stand still.

When you look at all that we have accomplished over the past 50 to 100 years, it boggles the mind why there is so much pessimism in the world. I’m not implying that we didn’t hit a few speed bumps along the way, such as war, famine and conflict, but it’s important to recognize that we are living through the safest time in human history. This is something to celebrate.
